Imagine the eerie sound of the wind in the desolate patagonian steppe, the thunder of massive pieces of ice falling into the water.
Welcome to El Calafate & El Chalten
This small, remote town in the province of Santa Cruz, is the gateway to the Los Glaciares National Park, home to Patagonia’s star glacier: Glaciar Perito Moreno.
The amazing ice-blue glacier, declared a World Natural Heritage site by UNESCO, can be visited in multiple ways: from land, navigating its awe-inspiring face or walking along it in crampons!
There is more to El Calafate: hikes, horseback riding, staying at a homely sheep estancia (hands-on shearing and all!), enjoying the sweeping views and savouring the unique Patagonian lamb. Further north, the small mountain village of El Chalten and the famous Fitz Roy peak deserve a visit and a trek!
